Leapfrog and Vtech, companies that offer educational tech toys, have both released new handheld game consoles in time for back-to-school season. Leapfrog's Leapster Explorer is a huge leap (pun intended) from the Leapster 2, and offers 3D animations, downloadable apps, called Leaplets and even eBooks. Selling for about $70, the Explorer has a touch-screen with a stylus and a built-in camera that can also capture video and is recommended for ages 4-9. Vtech's MobiGo is a bit cheaper, at $60 and is for kids aged 3-8. The MobiGo also has a touch-screen and can display interactive eBooks? - it also has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Here's what experts and parents have to say about these devices.
